Tool theft can have a devastating impact on tradespeople. Thousands of pounds lost, cancelled jobs and being unable to work.

We see this type of offence committed in hotels, gyms and other public car parks. Vehicles can also be targeted on driveways, outside residential properties and near building sites.

In the event that your tools are stolen, having them marked with a unique way increases the chance of us being able to reunite you with them.

We recommend:

Using a forensic marking fluid such as DataTag, SelectaDNA, or Smart Water (check out SecuredbyDesign to ensure they are approved) and use stickers to let people know they are marked

Keeping a property list detailing the make, model, serial number, and description

Taking photographs of your property and note any distinguishing marks, including where and how you’ve marked it
